Things I Learn from Being 18 for a Week

Hello beauties!

Sorry for not being active for the past week. It was prom hype and I got caught up in it. But now I'm back I have so many new ideas. As you probably read last week, I turned 18 years old. I'm finally an adult! But within the past week, I've noticed some things/changes that happens when you turn 18. Here are some of them.

  • You become a legal adult
    • In the sense, that you can get in legal trouble and your parents don't have to bail you out. But luckily I'm not the one to get in trouble. So I'll save my parents a few heart attacks.
  • Social media sites are real quick to update your account
    • This happened the day after I turned 18. Facebook removed some of the restrictions on my account since I'm no longer a minor. The removed limitations that protect sensitive information to others, reminders of post information, and much more.
  • You're reminded of all the perks of being 18
    • The first thing my mom told me when I turned 18, was that I could go to the casino. Which has never crossed my mind. My friends later that day told me that I could buy a lotto ticket, which I don't see myself doing. But what did cross my mind, was all of the countries where I can drink now. Countries such as, Canada, Mexico, England, and much more (Here's a list)
  • You still remember, you have friends who are minors.
    • For me this was the hardest thing to wrap my head around. For the longest, my friends were all the same age as me. Then slowly, one by one, we've turned 18, and the circle of minor friends gets smaller. Whenever we try to plan events together, we have to work around the friends who are minors. A common sentence that comes up is "Oh yeah, you guys are minors,".
  • People seem to have a small sense of greater respect.
    • Maybe it's just the number 18. But lately, I've been treated like an adult. Granted I've been treated like an adult for the past two years, but this is different. People actually want to hear what I have to say, rather than just listen. Which by the way, is an amazing feeling!
  • Adults become nostalgic about your life
    • I grew up in church, and most of the adults who I know, knew me since I was born. So when I tell them that I'm 18, they talk about all the things "fetus Raven" did. Sometimes the stories are funny, but sometimes the stories are so embarrassing to me. But these are the people who I've grown up respecting and loving my entire life.
These are some of the things that I've noticed so far. I'll be sure to update you if anything new comes. Let me know in the comments other "18 lessons" you've experienced!

Until next time,

Raven

18 Lessons I've Learned (So Far)

Hello beauties!
As you can guess from the title, I'm 18! I'm a legal adult, but still a kid at heart. I just want to talk about some lessons that I've learned in these short 18 years. All of these are attributes that I apply to my life, and hope you can take some away with you.

  1. Life is hard
  2. Life is a joy
  3. Enjoy the people you're around
  4. Take the time to listen to others
  5. Don't try to always be in the spotlight
  6. Respect those who are older and wiser than you
  7. ASK QUESTIONS
  8. Be thankful for what you have
  9. Don't expect anything to come back if you helped others
  10. Learn beyond than your limits
  11. Take part in challenges that make you feel uncomfortable
  12. Laugh
  13. Cry (It's okay to sometimes)
  14. Be open
  15. Treat yourself to the joys of life
  16. Treat others to the joys of life
  17. Talk to strangers (but be careful)
  18. Make friends with people that you can't see yourself without.
Some of these were instilled in me as I grew up. But the majority I learned on my own, and I live by them. They helped establish the person that I am today.

For the future, I hope to look back and still say that I live by these lessons, and have learned many more along the way.

Until next time,

Raven

College Signing Day

Hello beauties!
Today at my school was College Signing Day. Although the original date is May 1st. My school decided to push it for the sake of AP testing. College Signing Day is the day where for most colleges it's the LAST day to apply. But for high school seniors, it's the day where they declare or commit to the college of their choice. For me, I committed to Central Michigan University.

I hadn't really though much of this day to have a huge impact on me. Mainly because I thought it was day where you watched a bunch of people sign a meaningless paper, hear meaningless sayings, yada, yada, yada.

But it wasn't until I received my first college acceptance (Bowling Green State University in Ohio) that I realized that this day is monumental. It's a day where you're publicly showing to underclassmen, that they can get to this point. It's a day where life really starts setting in (at least for me). But it's a day where you start to realize that school is going to end, or it has ended.

At my school, College Signing Day becomes an assembly. The tables are decorated with our colors, balloons with "Class of 2016" everywhere, and when the seniors walked in, everyone is applauding us. Once all the necessities and smaller parts of the program are finished, all the advisory teachers give us encouraging words.

For me, when my all time favorite teacher spoke she left me with two quotes: "Resist the urge to think that you know everything." and "You always ask me to tell my stories, now it’s time for you to tell me yours." These quotes have so much meaning to me, that I can barely describe them. I can only say that they have a deeper meaning than at the surface level.

So, College Signing Day for me was a day that I realized that soon, high school will be over. In less than three months, I'll be a full time college student. I'll be faced with even harder challenges, and there won't be anyone to hold my hand along the way. I'll have to be ready for life's struggles and life's accomplishments. So one day I can tell my favorite teacher, all my stories.

Until next time,

Raven

Welcome to My Blog!

(Source)
Hello beauties!
My name is Raven Tipton and I'm a senior in high school. I plan on attending Central Michigan University in the fall. #FireUpChips

I created this blog to be an outlet for me talk about my dreams, likes and dislikes, and anything in general. I'm an aspiring traveler. This summer, I'll be going to Europe! (This will be my first flight on a plane). Hopefully as the years progress, I'll be able to visit all the countries that I've dreamed about. Countries such as:  Spain, Norway, Australia, New Zealand, possibly Cuba, and many more!

I'm also a really big fan of makeup! So you'll see a lot of makeup reviews, raves, and rants from me. My personal favorite brands are: Benefit Cosmetics, Urban Decay, Sephora Collection, and NYX Cosmetics

Another thing I'll definitely be talking about would be college. With college around the corner for me, I'll be talking about the strengths and weaknesses that is college life. I'll even have blog posts about the steps for prospective college students. I don't know if you know, but college is the ultimate struggle for a high school senior. Trying to find the right college, creating plans while attending, and financial aid are some of the decisions that I've had to face. But don't let it scare you away from attending.

These are some of the topics that I'll be covering, and in the future more. I hope that you find my blog to be a fun, little outlet to read, or to find some serious advice for the next step!

Until next time,

Raven
